IPTV for LG Smart TV

LG televisions run webOS, which behaves much like Samsung's Tizen for our purposes: its own app store, its own small set of IPTV players, and the same device-based activation that surprises people the first time. Here is the whole process on an LG set.

Which LG televisions this covers

LG Smart TVs from roughly 2017 onwards run a webOS version that still supports the usual player apps. Very old sets may have dropped out of app support, and there the sensible answer is a Firestick or an Android TV box rather than a new television.

Players available on webOS

The LG Content Store carries Smart IPTV and IBO Player, the same two that dominate on Samsung. Both are designed around a remote control, and on LG sets the Magic Remote's pointer makes entering a long server URL noticeably less painful than on most televisions.

Installing IPTV on an LG Smart TV

  1. Open the LG Content Store from the home bar on your television.
  2. Search for Smart IPTV or IBO Player and install your choice.
  3. Launch the app and note the device key or MAC address shown on the screen.
  4. Send that key to us on WhatsApp with your plan, and we will prepare your details against it.
  5. Load your details and let the channel list and EPG download completely before you start browsing.

Getting the best out of a webOS set

  • Use a wired connection where possible; LG's Wi-Fi is fine but Ethernet is steadier for live sport.
  • Turn off any aggressive motion smoothing if live sport looks artificial — that is the television's processing, not the stream.
  • Let the guide finish its first download before judging the app's speed.
  • If a channel is listed in both HD and SD, pick the HD entry.

Common LG problems

The failure modes match Samsung's almost exactly: the app missing from the store in your region, stuttering that turns out to be the network, an empty guide that simply had not finished downloading, or details entered with a typo. Work through them in that order, and message us if none of it helps.
